Verney Road is a vibrant school of more than 240 students and 100 dedicated staff who work tirelessly to progress the whole child. The explicit teaching of Literacy and Numeracy are key priorities as are the development of independent living and learning skills. The Arts and Health & Physical Education are an integral part of the curriculum. Students attend VRS from 3 years of age in Early Education up to 18 years in VCAL (Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning).

Angela Buxton

Starting out as a secondary teacher, Angela always had a passion for special education. She was able to pursue this by completing extra training that led to completion of a Masters of Education specialising in teaching children with Autism. Angela has been a principal in the Shepparton area area over the last five years and is really looking forward to the challenge her new role offers.
Angela has two boys, the eldest lives in Melbourne and the younger completed Year Twelve in 2016. She loves spending times on weekends catching up with friends especially down at the beach or on the Murray.

Carolyn West
Assistant Principal
– Teaching & Learning

Carolyn has 30 years Special Education teaching experience, with 8 of these years being completed at VRS.  She has also had the opportunity to teach in NSW, WA and the NT in a variety of educational settings.

Carolyn has been teaching within the Early Education Program at VRS for the past 5 years, with early intervention being an area which she is extremely interested in and passionate about.  She also has a strong interest and focus on Teaching and Learning for all students.

Carolyn is married with 2 children and enjoys spending time in the garden, travelling and relaxing with friends and family.

Jesse Whittaker
Assistant Principal – Wellbeing

Jesse has performed a number of duties across Verney Road School including volunteering, Education Support, specialist teaching, classroom teaching, Unit Leader and now Assistant Principal. He is passionate about supporting the Independent Living Skills program, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) to give all students a voice, and supporting students who are finding engagement at school a challenge.

He is married to Kayla with two children. Jesse enjoys going to the beach, swimming and listening to all genres of music and watching the wrestling.

Janine Thorne
Senior Years Unit Leader

Janine has been a member of the Verney Road School for many years. She has held positions of specialist teacher, classroom teacher  and Unit Leader. She is passionate about developing career pathways and providing purposeful learning for all students.

Janine is married to Phillip with three children. She enjoys cricket, football and family time.

Daniel Lloyd
Middle Years Unit Leader

Having grown up locally, Daniel has spent most of his teaching career with us at Vereny Road School. After a brief period in Melbourne, Daniel returned as the position of Middle Years Unit Leader during 2019. While Dan’s focus is the development of students aged between 10 years to 15 years, he has built many great bonds with students from all areas of the school.

Kylie Freeman
Early Years Unit Leader

Kylie has been teaching for 20 years and has been at Verney Road School since 1999. In 2017 she began leading the Early Years unit where she now teaches throughout the week and is passionate about giving students the best possible opportunities to begin their education at Verney Road School.

Kylie is married to Glenn and has 2 children. Kylie loves most sports (except for wrestling!) and has a special interest in horses.
